If you have a lot of stuff with a specific size, making your own custom cabinet is a very good idea! In this project, Barry shows how he tackled this. He ordered all the sawing work online so that he could start immediately with this wall cabinet. Because Finnish plywood was chosen, the cabinet is not only sturdy, but also has an attractive appearance.
Description by Barry
For a new room that will be used as hobby room, storage space and home office, we needed a large custom cupboard with plenty of storage space. We wanted to make optimal use of the wall in terms of height and width. We also needed a specific size in terms of depth of the cabinet to match our wishes.
How I made this project
First I determined what material the cabinet should be made of. and the thickness of the planks. Then made a drawing. I have noted the different parts with measurements. I have given all parts a core mark (letter), which can be very conveniently noted with a sticker on the individual parts. This means that you no longer have to search for which part you need while building. I first made a base for the cupboard from pine beams, so that the cupboard could be placed tightly against the wall above the floor skirting boards and be level. I used adjusting wedges to level the base. Then assembled the frame of the cabinet and screwed down the intermediate shelves and mounted shelf supports on the middle uprights. Finally, I lifted the cupboard onto the base and anchored it to the wall, so that it is firmly fixed.
