Introduction
While we were renovating the downstairs of our 1901 farmhouse, a spot suddenly appeared that made us think: we need to do something beautiful with this. By demolishing a wall and moving the door to the utility room, a free wall space measuring 4.70 meters long and 50 centimeters deep became available. In my mind, I quickly envisioned a long, custom-made sideboard there: practical, understated, with plenty of storage space, and fitting the atmosphere of the house. But then again, try finding a vintage or new piece of furniture with exactly those dimensions. Eventually, we ended up at TOSIZE.fr, where I could design our cabinet myself using the configurator. We received quick and helpful advice regarding the filler strips and extra-long countertops, allowing the idea I had sketched months earlier to slowly become a reality. And now, exactly what I had in mind stands there: a cabinet that is not only incredibly practical but also truly adds something to our eat-in kitchen.
Before and after “Every time I walk into the room, I am so happy with this cabinet. It fits perfectly, provides a huge amount of storage space, and instantly turns an empty wall into one of the most beautiful spots in the house.” Anne

Job description
Before we knew exactly how we were going to build this cabinet, I had already sketched the idea on paper. Just to clarify for myself what I envisioned: a long sideboard that would fit nicely between the two doors, with the same layout of cabinets and open compartments on both sides. After that, my boyfriend and I carefully measured the wall together, because with a 4.70-meter-long cabinet, you naturally want to be sure that everything is right. Using the configurator from TOSIZE.fr, I was able to convert my sketch step-by-step into a real design. That worked very well, because I could determine the layout, dimensions, and look myself. The biggest challenge lay in the extra-long top panels and the side panels/filler strips, because these required just a bit more custom work than a standard cabinet. For this, we contacted TOSIZE.fr, and they were quick to think along with us. As a result, my first sketch eventually turned into a design that was not only beautiful but also truly feasible.
Final result and conclusion
What I like most about this project is that the custom cabinet turned out exactly as I envisioned it months ago and sketched it on paper. What started as an idea for an empty wall has truly become one of the most beautiful spots in the house. The cabinet completes the eat-in kitchen, provides an enormous amount of storage space, and, thanks to its color and layout, fits the atmosphere of our farmhouse perfectly. Realizing a personal project like this was quite nerve-wracking at first, precisely because we had no experience with this type of work yet. But by tackling it step by step, from sketch to configurator and from assembly to painting, it became increasingly clear. That makes the end result extra special: it really feels like we created something that is entirely our own.

Step by step guide
Preparation
Step 1: the design. I started with a sketch on paper. Then I developed the idea further using AI so I could better see what atmosphere, layout, and proportions I liked. Next, I created the design in the {{ tosize_current_site_name() }} configurator, with exactly the cabinets, open compartments, and division I had in mind.
Montage
Step 2: measuring, ordering, and assembling. Because the cabinet had to fit exactly between two walls, I think my boyfriend and I measured the wall at least 10 times. After that, we ordered the cabinet and contacted them regarding the filler strips and extra-long top panels, as we needed just a little more than a standard custom cabinet. That communication was quick and pleasant. After delivery, we assembled the cabinet ourselves. We had no experience with this type of work, but with the manual and assembly drawing, the assembly was manageable.
Finish
Step 3: the finishing touches. Once the cabinet was in place, we painted it in French Gray by Farrow & Ball. This gave it exactly the calm, warm look I was going for, and it now fits perfectly with the atmosphere of our farmhouse.

My experience with TOSIZE.fr
Order
Delivery
General experience
My overall experience with TOSIZE.fr is very positive. I had looked at several online providers, but I immediately had the best feeling with TOSIZE.fr. The configurator was easy to use, allowing me to determine exactly what the cabinet should look like. I also found the communication very pleasant. Because we needed filler strips and extra-long countertops in addition to the cabinet, a little extra coordination was required. We received quick and efficient assistance with this. The delivery went smoothly, and everything arrived complete. With the manual and assembly drawing included, the assembly was manageable, even though we had no prior experience with this type of project.
